(Dec 2014) A repetition of what happened in 2008. The Thai DCA (now called
CAAT) now allows only one name and only one pilot on the 5 year permit
for a private aircraft. This means no more group ownership. This rule
seems to keep changing and no one is sure what the rule is or who knows
the rule. Peter from Tantawan says that if you want the latest news on
the "5 Year Permit Rule" then call -- Khun Duangkamol at 02 286 8157.

(Dec 2008) In USA, Europe, Canada, South America, Africa, Australia, and Malaysia many people can own shares and fly an aircraft. This keeps their flying skills proficient and it keeps the airplane in top airworthy condition. It also provides income for growth of the general aviation industries (engine overhaul, avionics repair, prop overhaul, active flying clubs, income for airports), and it helps to train young pilots for the airline industry, to assist small businessmen with their business travel and for emergency transport and help in times of need (tsunami or closed airports). This is not the case in Thailand. The 5 year permit law in Thailand now only permits the one name listed on the 5 year permit (and perhaps one other name) to fly the airplane. Therefore, the aircraft are not affordable to operate if they can't be operated in partnership, so many are being sold because of this law. Many of the aircraft below used to be owned in partnership or owned as shares, but in Dec 2008, when Thailand began enforcing the new law of 5 year permit and only the pilot named on the permit can fly the plane, many aircraft were not able to be flown often and then were sold.
(2013) The DCA has been allowing other pilots to add their name to the 5 year permit, so it seems partnerships are able to operate again. However, if there is an emergency, you can only fly a plane if your name is on the permit, and this takes time, so the plane cannot be used in an emergency (like a Tsunami or a Flood).
(2014) The DCA has now restricted the one pilot per plane rule again.

For info, the plane went through the following overhauls:
- Hull, engine, propeller and avionics overhauled during the winter 2007 2008, while in the US (Hillsboro, close to Portland Oregon). The cabin was also fully refurbished on that occasion, with among others new ergonomic seats in charcoal black leather;
- Main overhaul of the propeller early 2012 (in Australia).
- All fuel hoses replaced end of 2012.
- Overhaul of the landing gear hydraulic power pack and actuators (ten years limit), vacuum pump and trim tab actuators end of 2013 (in the US). New hydraulic hoses and new (revamped) seat belts installed.
- NDI carried out on wing spar and wing spar attachments early 2014: no cracks and no corrosion found.
The plane has always been hangared in Thailand. It was also hangared when based at St Ghislain (Belgium), before flying it to Thailand. As you probably know well, the Centurion is an excellent travel machine, fast (150 kts TAS in the lower levels and 160 kts TAS from 8.500 feet on), comfortable and very reliable! WE MUST SELL. This is a really nice clean plane. The Cessna 172 'M' is the best model of 172. It has the late style 'STOL Camber lift wing', aluminum fuel tanks and is a 12 volt aircraft. The 180 HP conversion makes it a very nice four place plane. The float kit A is a really big bonus.
