FLY-IN to Malaysia, organized by SFAT

KUKL 2007 at Subang International Airport

Friday 31st August  to  Saturday 1st Sept., 2007

Background info:

  1. Inche Ismail,  the Head Honcho of Malaysian Sport Aviation Federation (MSAF) the main organizer of KUKL 2007, has cordially invited SFAT to organize and co-ordinate Thai Aviators to fly to Subang to attend the KUKL 2007 carnival.  Not only HS registered but ALSO  U registered airplanes are invited,  So, it will be a good opportunity for U (Thai) registered airplanes to cross international border.
  2. SFAT has appointed a SUBANG  FLY - IN organising committee      Of          3 persons:  K. NIWAT, Chairman,  K. UTHAI  and  Sunny Yong  to arrange a enjoyable trip for all participants.
  3. To obtain more info for participants, a survey trip has been organized – 3 planes – to fly to Subang, departing 21st July and returning on 24th July. 
  4. By 1st week August, we hope to have relevant flight info emailed to participants.

 

Info for FLY-IN Schedule,:-

 

  1. All planes should be in HATYAI on Wed. 29th Aug (Night Stop);  faster planes can fly direct to Surat (avgas) or Hatyai on Wed 29th Aug
  2. All planes should leave HATYAI (CIQ)  for  PENANG (CIQ) on Thurs 30st Aug, 2007 in the morning.

3.  *However,  2 days window (30th and 31st Aug) will be requested from Thai & Malaysian DCA to cross into Malaysian aie space.

  1. RETURN TRIP:  All planes leave Penang by 2nd Sept for HatyaiTIME Window of 3 days (2nd, 3rd, & 4th Sept) will be requested for planes to cross into Thai Air space ALLOWING FOR WEATHER or for those who want to stay longer in Malaysia .

 

AS SFAT IS CATERING FOR A LARGE GROUP OF AVIATORS WITH AIRCRAFTS OF DIFFERENT CRUISE SPEEDS; SOME MAY WANT TO GO EARLIER OR RETURN LATER; WE WILL ONLY GIVE A  SCHEDULE more fitting for slower  ULTRALIGHTS – U REGISTERED – IN MIND.

IF YOU WANT TO HAVE YOUR OWN SCHEDULE, YOU ARE FREE TO DO SO. SFAT WILL HELP EXPEDITE FORMALITIES.

 

SFAT WILL ONLY APPLY FOR FLIGHT PERMITS FOR AIRCRAFTS FLYING UNDER SFAT RULES and WITHIN TIME FRAME of  FLY-IN SCHEDULE.

Please note that you can cross the border during the time window we will be requesting from Thai & Malaysian DCAs.  Faster planes with long range tanks can fly direct to Hatyai in one day (say on 30th Aug);  You may  fly direct to Hatyai (CIQ) across to Penang (CIQ) or Subang (CIQ).

            on return trip, you can fly  (SubangHatyai on 2nd Sept)

As this is a FUN trip, we recommend you to night stop as a group in HATYAI ( Wed, 29th Aug), PENANG (Sun, 2nd Sept) and PHUKET (3rd Sept)

 

Fuel stops (95)  We will  arranged fuel stops in Ban Chong, Chumporn, Surat, Hatyai, PhuketPenangSubang and  [Ipoh (maybe)]

Avgas will be arranged with PTT for  Surat , Hatyai and Penang (Petronas)

Please submit early as we need to check with THAI  DCA  for FLIGHT PERMIT REQUIREMENTS regarding documentations; for example, the RECCI  group (intended departure date 21st July,) has meet with problems of:

 

1.    NO INSURANCE COVERAGE  of U-V99 while in Malaysian airspace.

2.     PIC NAME different from Aircraft owner’s name.


31 Aug 2007 -- SFAT MALAYSIAN ADVENTURE TRIP -- SFAT secretary Khun NIWAT and advisor Sunny Yong flew down to Phuket to meet with Inche ISMAIL (PRESIDENT of the MALAYSIAN SPORT AVIATION FEDERATION - MSAF), who flew into PHUKET on Monday, 30th April in a LEAR JET belong to the DCA of Malaysia on his way to Berlin. Inche Ismail of MSAF is the organizer of the KUKL 2007 - KARNIVAL UDARA KUALA LUMPUR - the major ANNUAL GA event in Malaysia (supported by the Malaysian Government). He has invited SFAT to participate in KLKU 2007 in SUBANG (WMSA) on 31aug2007 - 01sep07. ALL GA planes (INCLUDED ULTRALIGHTS, TRIKES, BALLOONS) are welcome!!! He will officially invite SFAT to organize the THAI GA and THAI U-registed AIRCRAFT TO FLY INTO MALAYSIAN AIR SPACE to SUBANG WMSA (as well as other places, like exotic TIOMAN ISLAND, PENANG, PANKOR Island or the grass strip airfield in their NATIONAL PARK - TAMAN NEGARA in Central Malaysia!!) He will request Malaysian DCA to extend all courtesies to our Thai Pilots as far as VOICE PROCEDURES are concerned! (Malaysian ATC are also famous for their machinegun CLEARANCES! so this will be a benefit for Thai pilots.) Sunny Yong is acting advisor to SFAT on this project and has requested Inche ISMAIL to FACILITATE with: 1. OFFICIAL INVITATION; 2. MALAYSIAN DCA FLIGHT PERMITS for U-registered aircraft - so that SFAT can liaise with THAI DCA on issuance of flight permits; 3. RELEVANT MAP INFORMATION regarding REPORTING POINTS, radio FREQUENCIES, CONTROLLED VFR ROUTES - COASTAL OR INLAND ROUTES. COASTAL ROUTE - after Hatyai - to PENANG (WMKP) delicious roadside stall food - PANGKOR ISLAND (resort island with take-off over the sea) - to SUBANG, along the WEST coast. On the way back - INLAND ROUTE - FROM Subang - VIA KUALA LUMPUR (Malaysian Capital) - flying pass the TWIN TOWERS OF PATAMINA to BATU CAVES, IPOH WMKI (where we all must stop for their famous KWAE TIOW noddles lunch) - PENANG - HATYAI. 4. LOGISTICS - 95 Octane and AVGAS; transportation to/from hotels; also requested their local flying clubs in Penang to meet and HELP us. 5. SFAT will most likely send a survey flight (namely SUNNY in a ultralight to Malaysia in July to check the route and procedures. Pre-trip meetings will be ORGANIZED by SFAT for interested PILOTS regarding details about SAFETY, pilots' SKILL, passengers, discipline, air-worthiness, documents, maps, GPS, TRANSPONDERS, RADIO, insurance, voice procedures, inter-plane communication in loose formation flying; TIE-DOWNS, emergency prodedures, ELTs. This is the first time that THAI ULTRALIGHTS will be flying across an international border and SFAT wants a well-organized and FUN trip for everybody involved!! This can lead on to future trips into CAMBODIA, LAOS, VIETNAM, MYANMAR or CHINA. -- Email Khun Niwat and Sunny // after this, we expect to see SFAT organizing a flying trip to LUANG PRABANG.
